White wines from the Loire Valley

From an enological point of view, the Loire Valley is one of the most interesting wine regions of France. In addition to extending over a rather vast territory with different environmental characteristics - the Loire Valley is among the largest wine regions of France - here different styles of wines are produced, from whites to reds, from rosé to sparkling wines and even sweet wines. The Loire Valley is mainly known worldwide for the production of white wines, and in particular those produced with the Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc grapes, however the production of red wines is also quite interesting and, in particular, those of Cabernet Franc grapes and Gamay. The Loire Valley is also famous for another white wine, produced in the westernmost area of the region, around the city of Nantes: Muscadet. This wine - usually appreciated in combinations with shellfish - represents the main production in terms of quantity and is produced with the Melon de Bourgogne grape, better known here as Muscadet.
The territory of this wine region extends along the river Loire, the longest in France. The first wine area of the Loire Valley is located in the initial part of the river - to the west of Burgundy - and going up north, still along the river and up to Orléans, there are other wine areas, quite distant from the one from the other. When the course of the river reaches near Nevers and Bourges, arriving then to Orléans, where it turns towards the west and continuing its course towards the Atlantic ocean, the most important wine area of the Loire Valley begins, the area from the which the most famous wines of the region come from. Precisely in these areas - and up to the western part on the Atlantic coast - the most famous wines of the Loire Valley are produced such as Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, Vouvray, Savennières, Quarts de Chaume, Montlouis, Chinon, Bourgueil, Menetou-Salon and Muscadet . The wines of the Loire Valley - unlike other French wine regions - are distinguished by the variety with which they are produced: white, rosé, red, sweet and sparkling wines, they are all styles of wines that can be found in the areas of this region.
