Intensely ruby red in color, Tignanello 2017 is remarkable on the nose for its complexity. Notes of ripe red fruits such as cherries preserved in spirits, sour cherries, raspberries and plums complement delicate spicy aromas of cloves and licorice; sweet balsamic notes of mint and chocolate complete its complex bouquet. On the palate it is rich, mouth-filling and vibrant with supple velvety tannins. Its lengthy finish and persistent aftertaste bring back aromatic notes perceived on the nose.

Ornellaia Vertical Collection 2011 - 2016
The desire to nurture the Estate’s exceptional qualities has shaped Ornellaia’s philosophy since the beginning. Ornellaia is a cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot and the faithful expression of unique terroir developed in harmony with nature. 2011: The sun-filled, early-maturing 2011 vintage perfectly expresses the qualities of Ornellaia. The wine appears an intense, youthful ruby red. The nose offers rich fruit that is fully ripe yet at the same time crisp and lively, backgrounded by delicate nuances of balsam and toastiness. On the palate, the powerful concentration immediately impresses, as do the tannins, massive yet silk-smooth and glossy, which allows the wine to completely fill the mouth but with no feeling of heaviness. The finish, near endless, is deliciously pungent and spicy, with a welcome crispness throughout. 2012: The 2012 growing season was characterised by an abundance of sunny, dry weather; some rain did fall as well, but it occurred in just the right periods, before the harvest, and helped the vines to cope with the hot, dry conditions. The result was an even, consistent ripening process that in the end yielded generous, full-volumed wines that are remarkably appealing and seductive, with an overall character that we like to define with the word Incanto (‘Enchantment’). Ornellaia 2012 appears a deep ruby, and a remarkably beguiling bouquet boasts rich fruit and spices notes. The palate shows well-rounded, full, and generous, with glossy tannins and a complete absence of any roughness. The 2012 lacks none of the proverbial concentration that distinguishes Ornellaia’s, great vintages, but this vintage adroitly masks that richness behind an expansive, magisterial structure, then concludes with a near-endless finish. 2013: What appeared to be a disadvantage for the 2013 vintage – late budding and flowering – proved to be a major advantage thanks to a warm summer and month of September offering textbook conditions for harvesting, with cool temperatures but a prevalence of sunny weather. This resulted in slow but complete ripening with great balance and a delightful aromatic quality, which we like to define as “Elegance”. Ornellaia 2013, with its dense, vibrant colour, has a nose of splendid aromatic complexity built around a limpid and brilliant fruitiness, underscored by refined spicy and balsamic notes. The mouth develops vibrant and complex fruity nuances framed by a dense, slender structure with tannins that attain a rare harmony between firmness and fleshiness, concluding with a long balanced and fresh finish. 2014: 2014 was one of the most demanding years in memory of, and has allowed us to produce high quality wines that are offering great delight. The late ripening of the grapes allowed the fruit to fully express its liveliness and freshness. What is particularly striking is the high quality of the tannins on the palate: silky, refined, without rough edges. This year represents the heart of the estate, Ornellaia’s ‘Essence’: its natural style, the exceptional quality of its terroir, and the competence of those who work in the vineyards and the cellar. 2015: Like people of great ‘Carisma’ (Charisma), wines of great vintages know how to impose themselves naturally, without force, their balance allowing them to shine without having to flaunt themselves. The 2015 vintage perfectly expresses this behavioural trait. Born during a particularly balanced harvest season, 2015 is certainly one of the great Ornellaia vintages. The usual intense colour indicates a wine of great texture and intensity, followed by a fruity scent that is ripe and fresh at the same time, emphasized by classic balsamic and spicy hints. On the palate it is rich, dense, and full-bodied, with an exceptional tannic texture, dense and velvety, of great refinement, that extends throughout the mouth. The long finish concludes with a feeling of firmness and finely spiced hints. 2016: 2016 represents another immensely successful vintage highlighting all the virtues of Bolgheri’s climate: abundant sunshine, without excessive heat, a dry summer to allow the grapes to achieve perfect ripeness and concentration, and just about enough rain to avoid stress. All these elements combine to yield a wine that shows lush ripeness and crisp firmness, opposing forces creating a sense of dense raciness we like to describe as “tension”.

TENUTA SAN GUIDO
Sassicaia Vertical Collection 2014 - 2016
2014: In Bolgheri the 2014 vintage was unlike other wine areas as precipitation was scarce. The slow maturing of the Cabernet grapes helped the phenolic ripening producing distinctive aromas and flavours never achieved in other vintages. The winter season was quite mild with frequent rainfall while the spring started late. The heat in May favored a good budding and the summer was warm until the end of July. In the month of August the temperatures were lower than the seasonal average. The maturation therefore was slowly and gradually accomplished, although delayed. This favored aromatic extraction. The late summer rains did not harm the grapes that were monitored and cared for by the agronomists. As a result of slow maturation and favorable climatic conditions the wines appear to be harmonious with moderate alcohol content, a style that reflects the philosophy of Tenuta San Guido. 2015: A very good vintage that influenced in a very positive way the wines of 2015. After a rather mild winter with colder temperatures in January and February and heavy rains, during the second week of April the vines started vegetating thanks to mild temperatures and sunny days. The rains, very abundant in the early spring, brought to a quicker vegetation of the plants and at the same time helped the water reserve of the soils. The flowering was excellent, finished towards the end of May and was followed by a great budding, favored by good climate. June and the first half of July were characterized by temperatures above the seasonal average but from late July the they went back in their usual range. This climatic oscillation was mainly due to some rains that brought fresh air, very useful for the health of the vineyards and consequently for the excellent ripening of the grapes. Thermal excursion between day and night that lasted throughout August guaranteed the excellent phenolic ripeness of the grapes. 2016: 2016 is a vintage worthy of praise, considered by some even better than the exceptional 2015. The autumn was characterized by an unusually warm and dry climate, except for some rare abundant rains. Proper winter started in late November with cold temperatures that remained low both day and night, until the whole month of January. February, on the other hand, was more humid and with a slight increase in temperatures. These precipitations were essential to ensure the water reserve of the subsoil and guaranteed the vine's wellbeing over the summer. At the beginning of April, the sharp rise in temperatures anticipated the sprouting of about 8-10 days. The proper arrival of the summer happened during the second half of June, with beautiful sunny days and summer temperatures. Those remained in the seasonal average with the exception of the second decade of July, which was very hot. The veraison began at the end of July and the following weeks ensured an optimal phenolic and alcohol ripening of the grapes, allowing a longer permanence of the grapes on the plants. Some nocturnal rains that occurred in August offered refreshment to the plants and washed the grapes, while the cool night breezes, conditioned by the sea, have accentuated the development of the perfumes and guaranteed freshness and fragrance of the grapes that have gradually matured, without excess sugars. The harvest was carried out, thanks to the optimal conditions, until the first decade of October. The healthy and intact grapes, homogeneously matured, that were brought to the winery, gave an optimal response in organoleptic terms. Great extraction in terms of color and anthocyanic structure, combined with an extraordinary aromatic component, elegant and subtle tannins are the distinguishing features of this Sassicaia vintage.
