The J. Hofstätter estate vineyards aptly demonstrate what can be considered the ace in the hand of the South Tyrol (Südtirol – Alto Adige) wine region: the exceptional diversity of terroir. J. Hofstätter is the only family wine estate that owns vineyards on both the west and the east banks of the Adige River. A total of 50 hectares (124 acres) are cultivated on the best slopes and steep sites of the broad valley. The winery is located in Tramin-Termeno and is one of the largest family wine estates in South Tyrol.

Lagrein

Full, bright ruby, almost black in colour, this is an extremely typical Lagrein, very easily recognisable. It is immediately impressive due to the excellent equilibrium between intensity and complexity, between aromas of spice and small woodland berry fruits and violets. Its fragrance is striking, clear, captivating and fresh. Very harmonious on the palate, with assertive but supple tannins, full, broad, velvety, round with subtle spice on the finish enlivened by palate-lifting acidity.

Michei 2017

This wine makes a youthful impression with its fresh, pale yellow and subtle green-yellow highlights. The inviting bouquet initially reveals notes of gooseberry paired with a touch of currant followed by nuances of elderflower, nettles and flint. The palate makes an equally refreshing impression due to a crisp, elegant, appetizing acidity that is superbly integrated. The extraordinary freshness that characterizes this wine continues the entire length of the mouth. Well balanced and firmly structured, this wine impresses with notes of minerals and clearly defined varietal aromas on the finish. Grapes are immediately destemmed upon delivery and macerated on the skins for 8 hours before being gently pressed. The must is clarified through natural sedimentation and fermented at a controlled temperature.

This is a highly individual wine and a copybook Gewürztraminer: full, bright straw yellow, concentrated with a strong aromatic character reminiscent of dried flowers and rose petals which develops and intensifies in the glass. Full-bodied, luscious but dry on the palate, the opulence cut by vibrant, firm acidity.

This Müller Thurgau is especially enjoyable savoured in its youth. Its lively, fresh aroma makes it a delicious aperitif and an ideal accompaniment for the most diverse starters. In the glass it appears pale yellow tinged with green. On the nose it is inviting, elegant, delicately flowery and aromatic, all of which is confirmed on the palate; pleasantly citrusy and crisp, its aromas meshed with Muscat-like fruit and enlivened by vibrant acidity.

Barthenau Vigna S. Urbano 2010

Barthenau Vigna San Urbano faithfully reveals the potential inherent in our finest cru to produce world-beating Pinot Nero. It is located in the heart of the vineyard surrounding our Barthenau manor house close to the hamlet of Mazon, where some of the Pinot Nero vines here are over 65 years old. Only the term “Vigna” guarantees the origin of a single-vineyard wine in Alto Adige. A superb Pinot Nero, whose concentration is clearly heralded by its dark ruby colour. Initially it seems somewhat closed on the nose, but then opens up in the glass to reveal its authentic, noble Pinot Nero origins. The aroma reminiscent of sour cherry and raspberry is enhanced by a delicate hint of vanilla and spice. On the palate it shows excellent harmony with elegant acidity, well-integrated sweet tannins and enormous concentration of aromas.
